Cumming PD says scammers are using agency name to try to steal money

By AccessWDUN staff

The Cumming Police Department is warning the community about scammers who have been using the name of the law enforcement agency in an attempt to defraud residents.

An announcement about the potential scam was posted Monday on the police department's Facebook page.

"We have gotten a few calls and complaints about people using our agency, phone number, and employee names to ask others for money or sensitive personal information," the post said. "Please remember that no one from the City of Cumming Police Department will ever reach out via email or phone call to solicit donations, ask for personal information, or ask for money in order to 'take care of a warrant.'"

Department officials said anyone who gets a contact from someone claiming to be a City of Cumming police officer should call the department at 770-781-2000.
