ATLANTA — Flowery Branch rallied from a 14-0 deficit to knock off St. Pius and earn their first-ever win over a private school, 21-14, Friday at George B. Maloof Stadium.
David Renard scored the go-ahead touchdown with 11:54 to go in the game on a seven-yard run and left the rest up to the defense, which shutout the Golden Lions in the second half.
Renard finished with 116 yards rushing on 13 carries and a score and passed for another 132 yards and a touchdown. He was 9-of-16 passing.
Jaheim Hayes led the receiving effort with 63 yards and a score.
The Falcons' defense held St. Pius X to 19 passing yards and 193 rushing yards. Jack Tchienchou led the Golden Lions' ground attack with 75 yards and a touchdown.
The Golden Lions jumped out to a 14-0 led in the first quarter off a Tchienchou interception for a touchdown with 11:49 to go. Tchienchou added the Golden Lions' second touchdown on a 60-yard run three minutes later.
Malki Dryden put the Falcons on the board with 1:38 left in the first quarter on a one-yard run. In the second, Hayes hauled in a 49-yard strike from Renard to tie the game with :07 seconds left in the half.
