Authorities search for man missing in Lake Lanier

Officials are searching the waters of Lake Lanier Sunday morning in the Shoal Creek area after a man went under and didn't resurface Saturday night.

Department of Natural Resources Spokesman Mark McKinnon said in an email statement that around 9:20 p.m., the man left an inflatable raft to try and retrieve an oar. He went under the water and didn't resurface.

McKinnon said search crews from the DNR, as well as Hall, Gwinnett, and Forsyth fire units, used side scan sonar to search for the man until about 11:20 p.m.

The search resumed this morning.
