Very little changed for most of the northeast Georgia teams in the AccessWDUN coverage area last week, as far as rankings go.
(Rankings taken from March 13 Georgia Dugout polls)
Buford remained atop the Class 6A poll with Flowery Branch (2nd) and Jefferson (6th) in Class 4A and North Hall (2nd) and Cherokee Bluff (4th) all holding steady after last week's action.
Banks County dropped out of the top 10 in Class 2A while Commerce moved up a spot into seventh in Class A Public. Jackson County in Class 5A and West Hall in Class 3A received votes but were not able to crack the top 10.
Nearly all of our teams will be in action either Monday or Tuesday as key region series either resume or get under way.
In Region 8-6A, the Wolves (13-0, 6-0 Region 8-6A) open a three-game series with Habersham Central (6-5, 5-1 Region 8-6A) at Gerald McQuaig Field in a battle of teams in the top three in the region standings. The Raiders are on a four-game win streak while the Wolves look to keep their record unblemished.
Gainesville (4-7, 1-2 Region 6-7A) got its first region win on Friday against North Forsyth (7-7, 0-3 Region 6-7A) at Ivey-Watson Field and will look for the two-game sweep on Monday in Cumming.
Region 8-5A finally gets under where Jackson County (11-3, 0-0 Region 8-5A) opens a home-and-home series with Apalachee (8-4, 0-0 Region 8-5A) on Monday in Jefferson. Johnson (1-7, 0-0 Region 8-5A) opens region play on the road against Walnut Grove (8-4, 0-0 Region 8-5A).
In Region 8-4A, the three ranked teams -- No. 1 North Oconee, No. 2 Flowery Branch, No. 6 Jefferson -- all took sweeps to open region play last week. Branch (10-2, 3-0 Region 8-4A) is off from region play this week while Jefferson (8-4, 3-0 Region 8-4A) opens a three-game series with a Chestatee squad (6-7, 0-3 Region 8-4A) that held the lead in two games against No. 1 North Oconee last week. East Hall (0-8, 0-0 Region 8-4A) looks for its first win against a Madison County team (1-12, 0-3 Region 8-4A) that is also struggling.
It’s a similar start in Region 7-3A, where No. 2 North Hall, West Hall, and White County all opened with series sweeps as well. The big series in this region will No. 4 Cherokee Bluff (8-3, 0-0 Region 7-3A) opening a three-game series with the Spartans (10-3, 3-0 Region 7-3A) on Monday. North Hall (8-3, 3-0 Region 7-3A) takes on Lumpkin County (4-8, 0-3 Region 7-3A) this week while White County (8-3, 3-0 Region 7-3A) and Dawson County (6-5, 0-3 Region 7-3A) open a series on Monday in Cleveland.
Riverside Military Academy (0-9, 0-3 Region 8-2A) and Banks County (8-5, 3-0 Region 8-2A) open a series in Region 8-2A on Tuesday in Homer while Union County (4-7, 0-0 Region 8-2A) opens its region schedule on Tuesday at home against Elbert County (9-4, 3-0 Region 8-2A).
In Region 6-A Private, Lakeview Academy (3-2, 0-2 Region 6-A Private) looks for its fist region win on Monday traveling to The Weber School (7-2, 1-1 Region 6-A Private).
