Forsyth County offers rent relief to those hit hard by the pandemic

Those who have been hit hard by the pandemic in Forsyth County may be eligible for some relief. Renters that can prove income loss due to COVID-19 can apply for short-term assistance through the newly created Forsyth County Rent and Utility Relief Program.

Thanks to a grant from the U.S. Department of Treasure, Forsyth County will be able to provide rent and utility assistance for qualifying households, beginning Monday, March 8.

A website has been set up, as well as a call center. Anyone with questions can call 678-273-2972 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays. Additional information will be available in Simple Chinese, Spanish, Korean and Hindi, as well as English.

“We strongly encourage those that are in need of assistance of paying their rent or utilities during the pandemic to reach out through this program,” said Forsyth County Manager Kevin Tanner.

A total of $7.35M in grant funds for eligible Forsyth County residents is made possible through the U.S. Treasury’s Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act and the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021
