Two teenagers from Norcross and a 4-month-old boy were transported to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries after a Sunday car accident in Hall County.

According to Sgt. Major Patterson with the Georgia State Patrol, the single-vehicle accident happened at 11:55 a.m. on Poplar Springs Road, east of Pine Vale Road.

19-year-old Kevin Ornandi Murillo-Miraldo of Norcross was driving a 2006 Honda Civic eastbound on Poplar Springs Road at the time of the incident. 18-year-old Catherin Velasquez-Gueva of Norcross and a 4-month-old boy were passengers in the vehicle, according to Sgt. Patterson.

As Murillo-Miraldo approached a left curve, the vehicle started to travel off the right shoulder of the roadway. Murillo-Miraldo over-corrected to the left and crossed the center line. Sgt. Patterson said Murillo-Miraldo again over-corrected and lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle then started to rotate clockwise and traveled off the right shoulder of the roadway where it struck a ditch with its front. The rear of the vehicle vaulted into the air after the impact with the ditch, causing the top and rear of the vehicle to hit a tree. The vehicle came to an uncontrolled rest back on its wheels facing west, according to Sgt. Patterson.

Murillo-Miraldo and Velasquez-Gueva were both taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center by Hall County EMS with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Sgt. Patterson. The 4-month-old boy was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta by helicopter with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Sgt. Patterson said Murillo-Miraldo was charged with Failure to Maintain Lane and Driving While Unlicensed in the incident.
