Gwinnett County schools discuss returning to in-person learning next fall

The Gwinnett County Public School System is considering how and when all students can return to in-person class safely.

According to the Gwinnett Daily Post, on Friday the county school board met virtually with members of Gwinnett County’s state House delegation to review education-related issues. During this conversation, superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks discussed all students returning to the classroom this fall.

Wilbanks is hoping to revert back to a normal, in-person format this fall, however, he says that if conditions are not conducive to doing so safely, they will continue to adjust, and readjust, to the situation as needed. The Gwinnett Daily post says that he is hoping, however, that the vaccine will work enough to make everyone feel confident in returning all students to school.

In March of 2020 all students switched to virtual learning and remained virtual for what was left of the school year. This past fall parents had the choice of virtual or in-person learning, allowing parents to choose the path they felt worked best for their family.

District officials are reiterating to parents that nothing has been determined for certain for the fall 2021 semester, but they will continue to monitor the situation and do what is safest for everyone involved.
