Riverside Military Academy family gift funds new dayrooms on campus

Riverside Military Academy students now have access to two new and improved dayrooms within the barracks and additional classroom resources thanks to generous gifts from Billy and Mary Lou Jones.

"The renovated dayrooms include modernized space with comfortable furnishings and seating, along with new technology for entertainment and recreational use by the students. This has encouraged the boys to come out of their rooms and socialize with others during evening and weekend free-time,” said Commandant Adam Carter. “As we strive to provide the best possible educational experience for our cadets, we are grateful to Mr. Jones and the impact of his generosity.”

At a dedication on December 1, RMA unveiled the newly named Jones Family Dayroom, given in honor of Mrs. Mary Lou Jones, as well as the Jones Family Classroom, given in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Jones’ daughter, Laytona Jones Owens, a former teacher.

“Teachers rarely have all the materials needed for their classrooms. Mr. Jones recognized this need and made a generous donation to the Academics Department for the provision of classroom resources,” said RMA Dean Cathy Moore.

Dean said the donor initiatives align with RMA’s five-year strategic plan, which was designed to help students reach their highest potential. The plan includes five strategic priorities: cadet experience, culture of family, collaborative environment, enrollment management and resource management.
