Hall County teen goes pro in wake surfing

Brock Moody is a pro at wake surfing - literally.

The 15 year old was just declared number one in Semi Pro (Outlaw) Skim Division by the Competitive Wake Surf Association and now moves into the Pro Division.

"I finished third in Worlds, the world competition, and about a week after that they came out with the new world rankings, which I finished first in," said Moody.

Moody practices wake surfing on Lake Lanier. For those who don't know, wake surfing is surfing that takes place on the water, normally a lake, behind a boat with an engine.

"The boat creates surf-able waves, kind of like an everlasting ocean wave that you surf on," said Moody.

As Moody transitions into pro status, he'll take place in his first pro competition this month, virtually.

"I will film my 45 second surf run on Lake Lanier and send it in, and go from there," said Moody. He said he was confident in his entry.

When he's not training on Lake Lanier or competing, Moody is a sophomore at Chestatee High School. He plans to study marketing and wants to go into boat sales, as well as continue wake surfing.

For those breaking into the sport, or any sport, Moody said don't get discouraged.

"Don't let people on social media, or anything you see online, kind of scare you or disregard you or turn you away from the sport," said Moody. "Yes, it's really cool to see but you have to remember the background they have, they're pro skateboarders or have a background in watersports in general. Don't give up and keep pushing forward on it."
