As usual, the final four weeks of the season will be filled with fireworks and heartbreak.
Already, some teams are finding out their state playoff hopes are fading away, but many of the area's teams remain in the hunt.
White County kept its playoff hopes intact with the blowout win over West Hall, 42-0, last week. Unfortunately, for the Spartans, they'll need some serious help to get in now. Jackson County is still alive with the 63-0 win over Johnson. North Forsyth didn't have the big-game hangover in a 23-0 win over Forsyth Central, and both Dawson County and North Hall remain on a collision course for a home playoff game.
Flowery Branch, on the other hand, will need some help to secure a home playoff game after losing to North Oconee last week. They can start by beating Cedar Shoals at Falcon Field this week.
Other key games on tap this week: North Forsyth travels to Lambert in a crucial Region 6-7A battle. Dawson County plays host to West Hall. Union County looks to keep its home playoff hopes alive at Elbert County, and Habersham Central will try to stop the losing skid at Lanier.
Three games highlight the Jacobs Media airways, and all three should provide fans with plenty of excitement.
Shiloh at Buford ... Buford's off week came at the right time for the banged-up Wolves. They also had a chance to concentrate on more fundamentals and fix mistakes in all three phases of the game. Now, they turn their focus to a much-improved Shiloh team. Shiloh is undefeated in region play and would love nothing better than to knock off the defending champs. But as the great Lee Corso says ..."not so fast my friend." The Wolves will be fresh and should be able to roll easily in this one. You can hear that game on WDUN AM 550. (Click to listen live)
Chestatee at Madison County ... This game has playoff berth written all over it. Both teams need this win badly to keep the playoff hopes alive. Chestatee currently is fourth in Region 8-4A, and with a win on Friday, they'll solidify that position. But if Madison County wins, who is 0-2 in the region right now, they'll hold the tiebreaker over the War Eagles in the standings. Still, though, there's plenty of football left in the region. You can listen to the game on WDUN FM 102.9. (Click to listen live)
And South Forsyth travels to Gainesville... Speaking of key region games, this one is huge for both teams. Gainesville is fourth in Region 6-7A, and South Forsyth is atop the standings with Denmark at 2-0. The Red Elephants should be well rested for this one, coming out of an off week. They will have their hands full with an explosive War Eagle team. The defense will have to be on point, and the offense will need to be efficient. This one will be very interesting at City Park. The game can be heard live on FM 94.5 The Lake. (Click to listen live)
