Football: Key Region 8-4A showdown headlines Week 8 radio lineup

By Bo Wilson Sports Editor

Week 7 saw some big offensive numbers across the area.

Buford hammered Habersham Central, 58-0. Cherokee Bluff spanked West Hall, 37-7. Jefferson routed East Hall, 63-0, and North Hall blew past White County, 51-20. Those were just four games that saw the winner put up 30 or more points.

This week, the biggest game across the coverage is No. 7 Flowery Branch at North Oconee in Region 8-4A. Commerce will travel up the mountain to Towns County, which will change the Region 8-A landscape.

Three games highlight the Jacobs Media airways, and all three should provide fans with plenty of excitement.

Flowery Branch at North Oconee... Flowery Branch will be well-rested when they arrive at North Oconee on Friday. The Falcons enjoyed the week off after falling to No. 1 Jefferson in Week 6. The Titans blew past Chestatee with a massive first-half output, 48-20. The Titans are tied with Jefferson atop the Region 8-4A standings, making this game huge for both teams. If the Falcons want to stay in the hunt for a home playoff game, they need to take care of business in Bogart on Friday. The two region foes have similar styles, with both averaging around 30 points per game on offense. The Falcons have the edge on defense, giving up 18 ppg, while the Titans average 24. This one should be a good one. You can hear that game on WDUN AM 550. (Click to listen live)

White County at West Hall... The Warriors continue their Hall County tour this week at the Hot Gates in Oakwood. Both West Hall and White County are coming into the game needing a region win to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Warriors were in the game against North Hall last week until the Trojans exploded in the second half to stroll to the win. West Hall, on the other hand, was beat up by the defending Region 7-3A champions Cherokee Bluff in Week 7. Both teams are searching for better offensive production -- both are averaging 18 points per game offensively. Whoever wins this game will have a better shot at a playoff game. You can listen to the game on WDUN FM 102.9. (Click to listen live)

And East Hall travels to Chestatee... The War Eagles would like to have last week's first half back against North Oconee. Chestatee was down 21-0 in a flash to the Titans but found a groove in the second half to cut the lead almost in half. The War Eagles have the firepower to get back on track, but it'll take a solid effort against Clete Cooper and the struggling Vikings. If the War Eagles allow the East Hall offense to get in a rhythm, it could be an interesting game. But the War Eagles have enough hunters on defense to put a stop to the Vikings air attack. This one could get interesting, but the War Eagles definitely have the upper hand. The game can be heard live on FM 94.5 The Lake. (Click to listen live)
