A fire just off Ga. 365 in Demorest destroyed a 5,000-square-foot home overnight.
The fire, at 1443 East Mize Road, was reported just after 11 p.m.
Habersham County E-9-1-1 received multiple calls reporting a structure fire in the area of Ga. 197 and Ga. 365, said Habersham County Emergency Services Director Chad Black.
“A bystander on scene advised they were unaware if anyone was at home,” Black said. “A primary search of the residence was completed and reported as all clear.”
Due to the amount of fire, the initial offensive attack transitioned to a defensive attack with firefighters working outside the home to keep the fire contained to the structure.
The state fire marshal’s office was requested for investigation.
Upon arrival, the state fire investigator spoke with the owner, who had arrived prior to the start of the investigation
The cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation.
No injuries were reported.
Units returned to service about 4:30 a.m.
Habersham County personnel were assisted by Demorest Fire Department and Lee Arrendale State Prison Fire Department.
