Rabun's Stockton de-commits from South Carolina

By Bo Wilson Sports Editor

Rabun County's Gunner Stockton has de-committed from the University of South Carolina.

The five-star quarterback made the announcement via his Twitter account on Tuesday.

"After much discussion and prayer with my family, I have decided to de-commit from the University of South Carolina," Stockton said on Twitter. "Back in August, I made the decision to commit to the university, program and staff. A lot has changed since that time, and I feel that I should re-evaluate my situation. I want to thank Connor Shaw for all of his love, support and understanding. Please no interviews at this time."

When Stockton made his commitment to South Carolina, Will Muschamp was the head coach and Mike Bobo had just been hired as the offensive coordinator. South Carolina parted ways with Muschamp mid-way through the 2020 season and Bobo left for Auburn after the season to lead the Tiger offense.

247sports.com now has Stockton's interest trending toward Auburn with Bobo as his recruiter. But the junior signal-caller has more than 20 offers from FBS and FCS teams, including Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and LSU.

As a junior, Stockton led the Wildcats to the semifinals of the Class 2A playoffs before losing to Callaway 41-17 on the road. He finished the 2020 campaign 213 of 317 passing for 3,128 yards and 45 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1,581 yards on 191 carries and 26 scores.
