Decision on apartment complex near Braselton on Hall County Commission agenda for Thursday

GAINESVILLE – A final decision is expected this week from the Hall County Commission on a rezoning request that would allow for the construction of a 350-unit apartment complex along Thompson Mill Road near Braselton.

Braselton Commons is expected to be completed in 2022 if the rezoning application by Rochester & Associates is approved.  Public comment on the project is welcome when commissioners meet Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Hall County Government Center.  You may comment either in person at the meeting or via the internet where the meeting will be livestreamed on the county’s website.

When completed the 31-acre, gated complex near Spout Springs Road will feature thirteen, three-story residential buildings, a clubhouse, a swimming pool and passive park areas.  Only one entrance will serve the site, off of Thompson Mill Road, and that generated concern from area residents as the application went through its review process before the Hall County Planning Commission.

Other concerns voiced before the Planning Commission were in regards to possible overcrowding in the area and pressure on local infrastructure.

The application was tabled twice before receiving an unanimous, but conditional, recommendation from the Planning Commission on August 3rd.

Apartments will range from one to three bedrooms in size and, according to the application, “…will provide housing opportunities to major employers in the area such as Northeast Georgia Medical Center, located only 2 miles away.”
