Runoff election was "picture-perfect" in Hall County

The runoff election went smoothly in Hall County Tuesday, according to Hall County Elections Director Lori Wurtz.

“Yesterday was almost picture-perfect,” Wurtz said. “It went really well.”

There was just over a 15% turnout rate, which was to be expected, and voters and poll workers did well maintaining social distancing guidelines. Voters also gave voting officials positive feedback regarding how poll workers enforced social distancing.

As for the election in November, Wurtz predicted at least an 80% turnout but believes they are on the right path to make sure they are ready.

“We just need to make sure we’re super prepared,” Wurtz said. “When you have a lot of the absentee-by-mail ballots that are coming into your office, that requires a lot of behind-the-scenes work.”

Before November, Wurtz hopes to recruit around 150 new poll workers.

Early voting for the November election will begin in October.
