The Gainesville City School Board approved the bid package for the new cafeteria, kitchen and media center at Gainesville High School, for a maximum of just over $10.1 million, at their work session Monday night.
The cafeteria and kitchen, along with the second story media center, is the next project on the school system's list to expand the high school campus to accommodate more students, alongside work on a second middle school.
Facilities Director Adrian Niles presented the bid package to the board.
"It's really the guaranteed maximum price for the kitchen/cafeteria/media center, which is attached," said Niles. "It comes out to $10,177,506."
The cafeteria will be over 11,000 square feet and will seat 738 occupants, while the second floor media center is over 9,600 square feet.
"When you come around the horseshoe, the cafeteria/media center is going to connect to the existing three story building. Once it's complete, nearby the new three story instruction building will be added as well," said Superintendent Jeremy Williams.
The bid package from Carroll-Daniel Construction includes 35 sub-contract areas and, one alternate area for paving and striping of areas around campus.
Williams said they expect to break ground on the new project by the end of the year.
