The Hall County Board of Education will hold two final hearings for the FY21 budget on Monday, July 27.
The first hearing is set for 11:30 a.m., while the second will be held at 6 p.m., both at the District Office at 711 Green Street in Gainesville. A vote on the annual spending plan will take place after the final hearing. The hearings will also be conducted online for those who are unable to attend in person.
Typically, the Board has adopted a budget by this time of year, but local districts had to wait to see what financial impact the state budget would have. The final state budget was delayed because the State Legislature did not meet because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The millage rate for the budget will remain the same at 17.55. However, because of higher property assessments in many instances, some property owners will see higher tax bills even though the millage rate will remain flat.
At the July 20 hearing, only one property owner expressed opposition to the burden of increased taxes without a rollback on the millage rate.
