The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a Gainesville man whose body was found in Lake Lanier near Oakwood on June 16.

According to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call around 2:45 p.m. from a fisherman who found the man, identified as 60-year-old Ben Bidgoly, unresponsive floating in the water in Balus Creek near Whites Mill Road.

Fire Services transported Bidgoly to Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Following his arrival at the hospital, a family member of Bidgoly’s called Hall County 9-1-1 Dispatch to report him missing.

The release said Bidgoly lived in the area where he was located by the fisherman. His boat was found floating in the water in that same area.

A preliminary investigation by the Sheriff’s Office does not suspect foul play is involved in Bigdoly’s death. The investigation is still active.
