Five juveniles - three male and two female - face charges of armed robbery following a hold-up Wednesday afternoon in a Winder subdivision.
According to a press release from the Winder Police Department, the crime occurred around 3:30 p.m. on April 22, 2020 in the driveway of a residence in the Bellingrath Plantation subdivision. Two teenagers were standing in the driveway when they were approached by a vehicle with the suspects inside.
Winder Police Capt. Chris Cooper said three of the juveniles jumped from the vehicle and took a bag with personal items and cash.
"The investigation revealed the two victims had been communicating with one of the suspects in the vehicle just prior to the robbery," Cooper said in the press statement.
The vehicle fled the scene, but officers were able to get an address for one of the suspects. The address on Giles Road was located in Barrow County, so the Barrow County Sheriff's Office assisted Winder Police and arrested the two female juveniles at that location.
The three male suspects fled into woods in the area and Cooper said K9 units from the Auburn Police Department and the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office, along with a helicopter from the Gwinnett County Police Department, and units from the Georgia State Patrol were called to assist. Two of the male suspects were caught around 2 a.m., but the third male suspect remained at large until his arrest around 6 p.m. Thursday.
"During the entire search and investigation, officers recovered three pistols believed to have been used during the robbery, ammunition, a cell phone, the victim's book bag and some other items relevant to the case," Cooper said.
All five suspects were taken to a local Regional Youth Detention Center and charged with armed robbery. The male suspects also face weapons charges and charges of reckless conduct.
