Sawnee EMC revises plug-in electric vehicle rate

By AccessWDUN Staff

Starting May 1, customers will see a change in the Sawnee EMC Plug-In Electric Vehicle (PEV) rate. The Sawnee EMC Board of Directors recently voted on the change and last week issued a statement saying the new rate will make it more cost-effective for co-op members to charge electric vehicles with "off peak" energy.

The board said as Sawnee EMC’s membership grows, so does the number of people utilizing electric vehicles in their day-to-day life.

"One of the most common questions we receive from members who have or are considering buying a PEV is if Sawnee has a special rate for charging their car," said Blake House, Vice President of Member Services.  "The answer is yes; and with this revised base charge reduction, it makes it easier for a PEV owner to justify the process of getting a second meter specifically to charge a vehicle."

A "second meter" that is installed for the purpose of charging an electric vehicle will have a reduced base charge of $12 per month.  That represents a 57% reduction from the stand-alone base charge under the PEV rate. The PEV rate charges a reduced kilowatt-hour rate for electricity that is used at night or "off peak" for charging an electric vehicle.

Sawnee EMC members that have an electric vehicle are encouraged to visit www.sawnee.com/pev to view all rate options, and other information, in detail.
