Podcast: Branch's Sutton shines on the court at UNG

By Bo Wilson Sports Editor

Julianne Sutton has become a star on the basketball court at the University of North Georgia.

The Flowery Branch graduate led the Nighthawks to a 26-5 record and a berth in the now-canceled NCAA D-II tournament while averaging 18.4 points per game in her junior season.

She joined The RunDown Sports Podcast on Wednesday to discuss her career at UNG and the recent cancellation of the women's national tournament amid concerns of the growing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Sutton also earned several on-the-court and academic honors during the 2020 season, including D2CCA All-Region First Team, Peach Belt Conference All-Tournament Team, Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year, Peach Belt Conference All-Conference - First Team, Peach Belt Conference Team of Academic Distinction, CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 First Team.

She talked about what drives her to be the best and says that constantly finding ways to improve is the key.

"I'm playing with some of the best basketball players that I've ever played with," Sutton said. "So you always have to find areas to improve. You cannot get comfortable. You always have to grow. You always have to find ways to get better."

With the recent cancellation of the NCAA tournament, Sutton says she now has plenty of time on her hands.

"It's been really weird," she said. "I went from a busy, crazy life with barely enough time to breathe, to having all this time on my hands. I'm really sad that we can't keep going."
