Basketball: UNG women tabbed as top seed in NCAA D2 Elite Eight

INDIANAPOLIS — The fifth-ranked University of North Georgia women's basketball team will be the top seed in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight set to start Monday in Birmingham, Ala. 

The Nighthawks will battle eighth-seeded and East Regional champions Pace on Monday, March 21, at 7 p.m. EDT. Pace was the seventh seed in the East Regional, knocking off the second, third and eighth seeds in the tournament to advance to their first Elite Eight since 2001.

North Georgia will play in their second-ever Elite Eight after advancing to the 2019 iteration of the event, falling to the eventual national champions, Lubbock Christian, in the opening round.

The other matchups will see second-seeded Grand Valley State battle the seven-seed Missouri Western, third-seeded Glenville State against sixth-seeded West Texas A&M, and fourth-seeded Valdosta State go up against fifth-seeded Western Washington. The winner of the UNG and Pace game will take on the winner of VSU and WWU on Wednesday, March 23, with the national championship game scheduled for Friday, March 25, at 8 p.m.

The semifinals and championship game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
