By AccessWDUN Staff

Twenty residents were displaced following an early morning apartment fire this morning in Peachtree Corners, but no injuries were reported.

According to a press release from Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services, the fire at Medlock Woods Apartments damaged several units. Firefighters responded to the scene on the 5100 block of Beverly Glen Village Lane at 2:49 a.m.after a caller reported hearing an explosion and spotting a building on fire.

Fire crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the second floor and attic of a wood-frame apartment building. Residents had already evacuated the building by the time crews arrived and firefighters did not locate anyone inside the building.

The fire caused heavy damage to five or six apartment units, according to the release. Units directly below those units also suffered smoke and water damage.

Officials believe the fire started in a top floor apartment and quickly spread throughout the attic of the building. Crews worked for around 45 minutes to put out the blaze.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Investigators are asking members of the community with information on the fire to contact the Gwinnett Fire Investigations Section at 678.518.4890.

The American Red Cross and management at the complex are working together to provide temporary assistance for approximately 20 residents displaced by the fire damage.
