Life with Lauren: Carriage rides add to Dahlonega's Old Fashioned Christmas charm

There's a reason that several Christmas movies, including some for the Lifetime and Hallmark networks, have been filmed in the small North Georgia mountain town of Dahlonega.

Each Christmas season, the main source of lighting for the downtown square isn't from shops and street lights, but from hundreds of golden lights blanketing the trees and historic buildings. A large Christmas tree decorated with ribbons of red and gold stands next to the Visitor's Center, while the bright red sleigh led by eight wooden reindeer waits nearby for when Santa makes his annual appearance.

But perhaps the most charming aspects of Christmas in Dahlonega are the carriage rides that each evening take passengers on their own magical journey under the canopy of lights. The carriage rides, which have also been featured in many of the previously-mentioned network films, are synonymous with Dahlonega's Old Fashioned Christmas.

Dahlonega's Old Fashioned Christmas is comprised of several annual holiday-themed events that take place within the city each year. Some of these include a Christmas parade, Festival of Trees and outdoor decorating contest.

In order to get a more in-depth look at the exciting activities planned for the remaineder of the season, AccessWDUN reporter Lauren Hunter spoke with Cindy Tomblin, chair of the committee responsible for planning Dahlonega's Old Fashioned Christmas. The two chatted while enjoying one of Dahlonega's famous carriage rides around the square.
