Remains located in Clarkesville identified as missing man

The remains located near a bridge on the Soquee River in Clarkesville last month have been identified as that of a missing man.

Shane Carol Justice was reported missing in August. He was believed to be homeless. His body was found in early September, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the remains as Justice on Sunday, according to the Habersham County Sheriff's Office.

The remains were discovered along Highway 197 North. Authorities previously said the death was suspicious, but were unable to positively identify Justice at the time of discovery.

A previous story about the discovery can be found here.

Lt. Matt Wurtz with the Sheriff's Office said they were perplexed at the fact they had previously searched the bridge area without locating anything or anyone, and then the body was located there later. They are investigating whether or not Justice died in that location, or was placed there following his death.
