Softball: Commerce, Jefferson, White County take big region wins; Tuesday roundup

COMMERCE — Commerce scored in every inning and overcame an early deficit to beat Towns County 9-1 in five innings in Region 8-A Public girl softball action on Tuesday.

The Lady Indians scored a run in the first but Commerce answered with three runs in the bottom of the first and two runs each in the second, third, and fourth innings.

In the first inning, Commerce scored on a RBI single by Emma Davis and a two-run home run by Rachel Morgan. Graci West also went deep in the fourth.

Lexi Darnell led the Lady Tigers going two innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out five. West threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen for Commerce.

Davis and Carson Hobbs each had two hits to lead a 9-hit Commerce attack.


WHITE COUNTY 9,
CHEROKEE BLUFF 1

White County used a six-run first inning to erase an early Bluff lead en route to a Region 7-3A win at home.

The Lady Warriors scored on a double by Annika Vandiver, a single by Cree Cantrell, an error, a walk by Kaitlyn Bowman, another error, and a walk by Vandiver in the first inning.

Vandiver got the win surrendering one run on three hits over five innings and striking out six.

Talia Ragone took the loss for Cherokee Bluff giving up nine runs on seven hits over four innings.

Cherokee Bluff’s only run came on a first inning home run by Stephanie Condland.

Clarissa McDaniel, Condland, and Emma Sundermeyer each collected one hit to lead Cherokee Bluff.

Vandiver and Reagan Dunagan each had two hits for White County.


JEFFERSON 14,
CEDAR SHOALS 1

Jefferson scored in every inning, including a six-run explosion in the first inning, in taking a Region 8-4A win in four innings on the road.

Camoreea Hart was the winning pitcher for the Lady Dragons allowing just one hit and one run over 3 2/3 innings while striking out seven. Taylor Spivey threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Jefferson scored a run in the second, three in the third, and four in the fourth to invoke the mercy rule.

Bekah Garrett and Ellie Kinlaw both tallied three hits on the day as part of  a 10-hit attack for Jefferson.


GILMER 3,
DAWSON COUNTY 1

Dawson County dropped a tough Region 7-3A game on the road.

It was a solid pitcher’s duel.

Jasmine Staley started for Gilmer but Isabella Chastain took over after just one-third of an inning. Chastain got the win striking out 17.

Dawson’s Layne Bailey surrendered three runs on two hits over six innings and fanned five.

Gilmer took a 2-0 lead after the first inning and added a run in the fifth. The Lady Tigers scored a run in the seventh but could complete the comeback.

Annslee Kirby, Reese Moore, and Lauren Kurtz all had one hit to lead Dawson County.


CHESTATEE 11,
WEST HALL 0

Isabel Long and Morgan Hunt combined on a one-hit shutout to lead the Lady War Eagles to a Region 8-4A victory on the road.

 was in the pitcher's circle for Chestatee War Eagles Varsity. Long surrendered zero runs on one hit over three innings, striking out four and walking zero.

Chestatee opened with a pair of runs in the first and plated five in the third to push the lead to 7-0. In the third, Long, Belle Ritchie, Brook Bachlelier, Lacie James, and Ashlyn Gibbs all had RBI hits for the War Eagles. They put the game away with four more in the fifth.
