No. 10 Women's Basketball Falls to Lander, 87-81

GREENWOOD, SC — Macey Gregg put up 21 points, but Lander went on a 23-7 run in the first quarter to take the lead for good as they defeated the No. 10 University of North Georgia women's basketball team, 87-81, Saturday afternoon.

North Georgia jumped out to an 11-1 lead, but the Bearcats started to get their press going as they stormed back to take the lead late in the first period. The Nighthawks kept the game in single digits until the final moments of the first half when Lander stretched the lead to 13.

In the second half, the lead stayed around 12 points for the Bearcats before UNG came storming back, cutting the lead to six with four minutes to play. Lander was able to hit a couple of shots to keep the lead distant enough to survive with the win.

NOTES
- Gregg's 21 points came on 8-of-14 shooting, including making her only three pointer of the contest. Julianne Sutton put up 17 points with eight boards, while Faith Arthur had 12 points off the bench. Kara Groover added 11.

- The Nighthawks shot the ball very well, firing at a 55 percent clip while holding Lander to just 45 percent. The Bearcats, however, made 9-of-17 three pointers.

- UNG led in points off turnovers, 22-21.

The Nighthawks look to get back on the winning track with a road game Wednesday at Augusta. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
