Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland said the body of an Illinois man reported missing on Lake Hartwell Wednesday has been recovered.
“Mr. Dean Smith, the missing boater, was found in the water near Sadler’s Creek on the South Carolina area of Lake Hartwell,” Cleveland said in a statement Friday. “Mr. Smith is deceased.”
On Wednesday, a representative of Hartwell Marina contacted Cleveland’s office reporting that one of the company’s rented pontoon boats had been found anchored in the lake without anyone onboard.
At this time, no further details are being released.
