MONTICELLO —  Gunner Stockton tossed five touchdown passes and ran for two others to lead Rabun County to a 49-20 win over Monticello Friday night in Region 8-2A action.

The sophomore quarterback was 20-of-26 for 327 yards but also had two interceptions. He rushed for 62 yards.

Sam Adams was Stcokton’s most frequent target catching 8 passes for 84 yards and 3 TDs. Braxton Hicks showed off his big-play ability hauling in just 4 receptions but for a whopping 140 yards (35 yards per catch) and 2 TD catches.

The Wildcats (4-0, 1-0 Region 8-2A) ran just 37 total plays but averaged 11.2 yards per snap. Monticello (0-4, 0-1) ran 75 plays for 327 total yards but managed just one score against Rabun County’s front-line defense.

Rabun County ran out to a quick 14-0 lead in the first six minutes of the game on a 59-yard Stockton touchdown run and 16-yard TD pass to Adams. The Hurricanes cut it to 14-7 on the final play of the first quarter but the Wildcats exploded for a 21-point second quarter that saw Stockton connect with Hicks on a pair of long TD passes of 75 and 35 yards and a 14-yard strike to Adams with just 6 seconds left in the half for a 35-7 halftime lead.

The two teams traded touchdowns in both the third and fourth quarters as the Rabun County defense never let the Hurricanes get close.

Rabun County plays host to Banks County next week while Monticello travels to Putnam County in a pair of Region 8-2A contests.
