Gainesville High School homecoming parade to close roads

Gainesville high school's homecoming parade takes place Thursday and motorists need to be aware of some road closures.

Community Relations Officer Nick Smith said to expect congestion to start during rush hour.

"We're going to start closing down streets around 5:00 p.m.. in the downtown area around the square," he said. "The parade should start about 6:30 p.m.. and, at the latest, we'll end at 7:30p.m. That's when we hope to have roads opened back up."

He added you might want to adjust your work hours.

"People will just expect for that entire downtown area to have the roadways closed." Smith said, "What we ask is just that if people need to get out of work, 5:00 p.m.. would probably be a bad time to do it. Maybe leave a couple minutes early, if you can."

He also said people in the area should plan an alternate route so you don't get stuck in heavy traffic.
