HCSO deputies arrest Atlanta man for string of smash-and-grab burglaries

An Atlanta man was arrested over the weekend by Hall County deputies in reference to a string of convenience store burglaries from nearly two years ago.

Henrico Tremayne Hayes, 26, of Atlanta, was taken into custody by law enforcement on Sunday, September 15. Hayes is charged with two counts of smash-and-grab burglary.

According to Public Information Officer Derreck Booth, the charges stem from various burglaries at two separate grocery stores in Hall County.

"On October 28, 2016, Hayes burglarized a Piggly Wiggly store at 2988 GA 323/Gillsville Highway by knocking a hole in the back wall and taking merchandise," Booth said. "Two days earlier on October 26, Hayes took merchandise and a safe from Lula Grocery at 5919 Main Street by prying the front door open with a crowbar. The damage to each store was more than $500."

Additionally, Booth said Hayes is further suspected of being involved in other similar smash-and-grab burglaries from different counties in Georgia.

"He was identified as a suspect in 2017 as a statewide burglary task force investigated numerous smash-and-grab burglaries dating back to 2015," he said.

As of Monday afternoon, Hayes remains lodged in the Hall County Detention Center on a $11,400 bond.

The case remains under investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
