Hall planning staff recommends denial of Family Promise rezoning request

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

The Hall County planning staff is recommending denial of a rezoning application for a tract of land on McEver Road where Family Promise wants to put a shelter for the temporarily homeless.

The staff recommendation says in a 10-page report that the property chosen for the complex is inconsistent with the county's Comprehensive Plan in that it does not meet the specified criteria for use of the land.

The staff report does, however, offer a list of eleven conditions the planning board, which is scheduled to consider the matter Sept. 16,  should consider should it decide to approve the rezoning.  The full report, including those conditions, can be found here.

The site is the current location of McEver Road United Methodist Church which has plans to re-locate but has, itself, run into problems finding a suitable place that meets local government specifications. (See links to related stories below.)
