Week 2 of high school football around the northeast Georgia area provided some interesting and thrilling results Friday night.
In the Battle of Oakwood, both Johnson and West Hall pulled out all the punches in the annual arch-rival fight but Steven Flores nailed a 37-yard field goal with no time on the clock to give the Knights a 30-27 win over the Spartans. The Knights broke a six-year drought against the Spartans.
North Forsyth extended its win streak to six games over Gainesville with a 21-7 win in Raider Valley. Meanwhile, Union County rolled past East Hall in Rabbittown, 49-8.
North Hall did just enough to beat Jackson County, 16-0, at The Brickyard. The Panthers showed improvement from last year’s 35-0 loss, but the Trojans’ clock control offense put a damper on the Panthers scoring opportunities.
Both Chestatee and Dawson County put on a show offensively Friday night but it came down to a Caleb Bonesteel 23-yard field goal to give the Tigers the win in overtime, 45-42, while Buford opened its season with a statement win over Jonesboro, 41-0.
In other action around northeast Georgia, Madison County held on to beat Habersham Central 26-20. White County stormed past Lumpkin County 52-0 at home. Banks County picked up its first win of the season over Franklin County, 15-7.
Denmark racked up 416 total yards in a 41-0 win over Cherokee Bluff in Flowery Branch, while Riverside picked up its first win of the season with a 41-13 win against Kings Ridge.
