STATESBORO — Rabun County accomplished two season goals with one victory over Bremen Saturday night.
The Wildcats earned Jaybo Shaw his first win as head coach and also avenged a 2018 loss to the Blue Devils with a 34-14 win at Paulson Stadium at Georgia Southern University.
Shaw said it was a dream come true.
"Getting the win in general was awesome but to get it at this stadium was special," said Shaw, who was a star quarterback for the Eagles during his college playing days. "This was a big for us because that is a high-caliber playoff team."
Sophomore quarterback Gunner Stockton looked in midseason form already rushing for 254 yards and three scores while throwing for another 211 yards and one touchdown on an efficient 8-of-11 passing. The Wildcats piled up 501 yards of total offense.
Rabun County (1-0) started strong running out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter and pushed the lead to 21-3 by halftime. The Wildcats led 27-6 heading into the fourth quarter.
Braxton Hicks had two catches for 50 yards and Sutton Jones had two catches for 49 yards to lead the Rabun County receiving corp. Tate Raney had two catches for 39 yards and a touchdown. Brody Jarrard added 50 yards rushing for the Wildcats.
Rabun County will play host to North Murray next week.
