OAKWOOD — Commerce churned out 356 yards on the ground and scored 34 unanswered points in a 48-17 win over West Hall Friday night in both teams season openers at Spartans Field.
West Hall (0-1) led 3-0 midway through the first quarter on a 25-yard field goal from Diego Lorenzo.
Commerce took the lead for good in a 19-second span less than three minutes later on a 1-yard touchdown run by Sam Roach and then a 20-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown by Jaylon Haralson for a 14-3 lead.
The Spartans pulled within 14-10 early in the third quarter on a 9-yard scoring run from Solomon Riley but Commerce scored 34 consecutive points into the fourth quarter to blow the game open.
Tyleon Brock scored a pair of touchdowns, one each in the second and third quarters, including a 53-yard romp, Roach added his second score late in the third quarter, Josh Frates had a 23-yard touchdown run, and Dreylan Martin capped the explosion with a 1-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter for a 48-10 lead.
Brock finished with 129 yards rushing on just 6 carries to lead the Tigers.
West Hall got a big game from quarterback Clayton Jenkins, who was 24-of-41 for 248 yards passing. Riley had 6 catches for 101 yards and Hunter Samples had 10 catches for 96 yards for the Spartans.
