HIAWASSEE — Towns County could not make it four straight wins over Hayesville (N.C.) Friday night.
Hayesville averted an early-game deficit and then jumped on the Indians en route to a 35-0 victory at Frank McClure Stadium.
Towns County (0-1) appeared to have gotten the Jason Roquemore-era off to a thrilling start when quarterback Kyle Oakes connected with Dakota Edge on a 43-yard touchdown pass on the third play of the game. But the score was called back on a motion penalty and the Indians never recovered.
Hayesville stopped Towns County on downs and then scored on its first three first half possessions to take a 21-0 halftime lead. Hayesville extended the lead in the second half.
“We’re a young team and we made some mistakes,” Roquemore said. “The good news is that almost all of the mistakes we made are correctable. The kids are working hard and we’ll get there.”
Towns County travels to Gilmer next week.
