HOSCHTON — Buford exploded for 10 runs in the first two innings and then held on for a 10-5 win over Jackson County Wednesday in the Hawk/Bulldog tournament at Mill Creek High School.
The game was called after the fifth inning due to time limits. Buford was set to play South Forsyth in a second game but that contest was called due to lightening and impending rain and rescheduled for Thursday at the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
Agaianst Jackson County, the Lady Wolves got going quickly in the first inning. Ansleigh Hollifield doubled in a run while Taylor Malvin and Emma Castorri both drove in two runs as Buford led 5-0. Jackson County scored a run in the bottom of the first on a RBI groundout.
In the second inning, Hollifield added another RBI hit, Emi Hall singled in a run, Olivia Duncan knocked in a run, and Malvin also added anorther RBI hit as the Lady Wolves pushed the lead to 10-1.
Jackson pulled within 10-5 in the third with a four-run frame on a bases loaded walk, a passed ball, a RBI single, and a groundout. But the Lady Panthers could get no closer.
Duncan, a freshman, earned her first varsity win going 2 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on four hits striking out one and walking two. Senior Kaitlyn Pickens got the save pitching 2 2/3 innings in relief.
