Voters in Flowery Branch Tuesday have selected Ed Asbridge to fill the unexpired city council term of Mary Jones, who resigned last year and then passed away earlier this year.

Asbridge, a retired retail executive and founder of the South Hall Republican Club, unofficially received 351 votes in a special election Tuesday. Melissa Brooks came in second with 82 votes and Chip McCullum received 69 votes.

Meanwhile, Patrick Ledford, 31, is the unofficial winner of the Mt. Airy Special Election to fill the council seat left vacant after the resignation of Bobby Ayers.

Ledford, career placement director at North Georgia Technical College, received 44% of the 100 votes cast.

Lerlene Dodd, owner of Mt. Airy Package Store, received 26 votes. Elisha Kinsey, who works in customer service, received 19 votes. Cindy Williams Tyler, a homemaker, received 10 votes. There also was one write-in vote.

The 100 ballots cast out of Mt. Airy’s 727 registered voters represents a voter turnout of 13.76%.

Results for both elections must be certified by the Georgia Secretary of State's office.
