The unofficial start of the high school football season began in mid-May with spring practice.
Teams from across the area ended spring practice with an annual spring game and will soon begin summer workouts, 7-on-7 and team camps in preparation for the upcoming season.
The Georgia High School Association allows football teams two weeks in the spring to hold practices. They also allow schools to play a spring game against other schools. High schools, however, don't have to hold spring practices or spring games, according to the GHSA rulebook. If the schools opt out of spring practice, the GHSA will permit two pre-season scrimmages in August.
Some schools still do it the traditional way with an inter-squad scrimmage and the spring practice finale.
For the northeast Georgia area, only a handful of area schools held spring games against other schools.
North Hall and West Hall kept it in Hall County with a battle at The Brickyard.
Dawson County hosted Pickens County.
Cherokee Bluff welcomed Banks County.
Gainesville hosted Stephens County.
Chestatee traveled to Union County and Jackson County hosted Winder-Barrow.
