CLARKESVILLE – A Clarkesville story had a happy ending Thursday night when a puppy that had fallen into a well underneath the home was rescued.
Habersham County E-9-1-1 received a call at 10 p.m. Thursday requesting public assistance for a puppy that had fallen into a well, and a male who was attempting to rescue that puppy also possibly in the well.
“Upon arrival of first arriving units, it was determined that the male subject was only under the house attempting to get the puppy out of the well,” said Habersham County Emergency Services Director Chad Black. “Personnel were able to determine that the puppy was down approximately 20 to 25 feet in the well.”
Demorest Fire Department was requested to assist, and personnel cut a hole in the flooring of a closet in the house above the well top to gain access to the well. A rope was used to retrieve the puppy.
Black said there was a small opening around the side of the well of the Pear Valley Drive home and the puppy apparently fell through while underneath the house.
“While the units would have been in service for any emergency calls in the district, we also will do what we can to assist the public when this type situation occurs, and units are not assigned to other emergency calls,” Black said. “It’s nice to have calls such as with effort to help and a great outcome.”
