Unemployment insurance claims down in Gainesville and most places in state

First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Gainesville were down in March and across most of Georgia.

State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler says applications in Gainesville decreased last month by 19.2 percent compared to February.  Statewide, claims were down 16.1 percent.

Filings in Atlanta decreased 15 percent but they were up by 13.1 percent in Athens.

Of the 14 metropolitan areas in Georgia, ten showed decreases, three an increase and the number was unchanged in one other.
