ATLANTA — Lakeview Academy's five-game win streak came to an end Saturday at the hands of Class A fifth-ranked and unbeaten Mount Vernon.

The Mustangs swept a doubleheader, 10-0 and 5-3, over the Lions, who were playing their fourth and fifth games in a six-day period.

In the first game, Mount Vernon (13-0) took advantage of several Lakeview (12-4) miscues as six of the 10 runs were unearned. Ian Echols went four innings scattering seven hits but allowed just one earned run. Holden Cooper and Parker Allen had each had one hit for the Lions.

In Game 2, Lakeview took an early 1-0 lead in the first on a Skyler Thellman RBI double. But Mt. Vernon scored two in the third and one in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.

The Lions roared back in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of runs, capped by a sacrifice fly from Thellman scoring Andrew Estes. Sam Stewart also had a RBI walk in the inning, scoring KJ Millwood, who singled to lead off the inning.

The Mustangs answered back, however, with single runs in the sixth and seventh to pull out the win.

Allen started and went 3 2/3 innings allowing two runs, just one earned, on four hits and two walks and fanned three. Thellman went 2 1/3 in relief allowing two runs, just one earned, on three hits and struck out two.

Lakeview will jump into Region 8-A play on Tuesday traveling to Riverside Military Academy.
