Baseball: No. 1 Jefferson rolls past Jackson County in series opener

JEFFERSON — Class 3A No. 1 Jefferson rallied from a pair of early deficits to beat rival Jackson County 14-4 in five innings Tuesday night in Region 8-3A action at home to remain unbeaten on the season.

Jackson County led 1-0 in the first inning and then 3-1 in the second inning. But the Dragons (11-0, 4-0 Region 8-3A) exploded for three runs in the second, six in the third, and four more for the fourth against Panthers starter Jared Adams (3IP, 9H, 4BB, 2K, 10ER) and reliever Ben Wiley (1IP, 4H, 4ER).

Zac Corbin, Lane Watkins, and Mason Cooper combined for eight hits and 7 RBI and scored five runs for Jefferson at the top of the order. Cole Watkins also had three hits and 2 RBI for the Dragons and Ryan Godfrey and Brycen Jewell had one hit each for Jefferson.

Lane Watkins got the win for Jefferson going four innings allowing two earned runs on three hits and fanned five. Rem Maxwell pitched a perfect fifth striking out all three batters he faced.

Tanner Crump, Ayden Griswold and Adams each had one hit for Jackson County.

The two teams' will head to Jackson County on Friday for a doubleheader.
 
Jefferson's overall record is 11-0.  Our Region 8-AAA record is 4-0.
