UNG women advance to Regional Final

ANDERSON, S.C. — The North Georgia women's basketball team defeated Wingate, 76-53, Saturday evening at Anderson University to advance to their second straight NCAA Regional Final Monday night.

The Nighthawks jumped out quickly to a 15-2 run and never looked back in the game. Wingate finished the first half on a little run and then cut the lead to six early in the second half, but UNG pushed the lead back out to as many as 26 late en route to the win.

NOTES
- Julianne Sutton led all scorers with 23 points and recorded a double-double with 10 boards. It was her eighth double-double of the season and her ninth game with 20 or more points.

- Abbie Franklin put up 17 points in the game, while Tamera Thorpe added 16.

- North Georgia outrebounded the Bulldogs, 41-29, in the game. Wingate came into the game averaging 10.5 more rebounds per game than their opponents and were 0-3 this season in games that they were outrebounded in.

- In the other semifinal, fifth-seeded Lander defeated top-seeded Anderson, 64-61, to end the Trojans' 28-game winning streak.

NEXT UP
North Georgia will take on Lander in the regional final Monday night at 7 p.m. in Anderson.
