MONROE — Jefferson remained unbeaten after completing a three-game sweep of Monroe Area Thursday in a doubleheader in Region 8-3A baseball action.
The Dragons whipped the Hurricanes 10-5 in the first game and took a 12-0 shutout win in the second game. They outscored Monroe Area 37-5 in the three game series.
Derek Vaughn got the win for the Dragons (8-0, 3-0 Region 8-3A) in the opening game going four innings allowing no earned runs on two hits while fanning five. Sammy Elegreet paced the offense with a pair of doubles and three RBI.
Jefferson led just 1-0 until unleashing a 4-hit barrage in a 6-run third inning to blow the game open. Monroe (2-6, 0-3) pulled within 7-3 after the fifth but the Dragons plated three more in the sixth.
Cole Watkins had two hits and two RBI and Zac Corbin had a hit and two RBI for Jefferson
In the second game, Brycen Jewell got the win on the mound scattering four hits and also striking six in five shutout innings.
Jefferson led just 1-0 after the third but scored two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, five in the sixth, and three in the seventh.
The offense pounded out 20 hits with Lane Watkins, Ryan Godfrey, Jewell, and Rem Maxwell each collecting three hits and combining for five RBI. Lane Watkins also hit a home run. Zac Corbin had a double and a triple. Trey McEver and Cole Watkins each added two RBI for the Dragons.
Jefferson next will travel to Stephens County on Tuesday in a non-region game.
