GAINESVILLE — Gainesville opened its new era under Adam Miller with a dominating 17-2, four-inning win over West Hall Monday at Ivey-Watson Field.

Cale Conley and Ben Still led a potent Red Elephants lineup each smacking a home run. After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, Gainesville answered with seven runs in the bottom of the first and eight in the third.

The Spartans scored a run in the fourth and the Red Elephants invoked the Mercy Rule with two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Zach Valentine got the win on the mound for Gainesville.

The Red Elephants (1-0) next will head to Brunswick to take part in the Baseball at the Beach Tournament. They will take on Bleckley County and Fannin County on Friday.

West Hall (0-1) will play host to Riverside Military Academy on Wednesday.

Chestatee pounded out 11 hits and took advantage of six East Hall errors in taking a win in both teams' season openers at East Hall Park.

The War Eagles (1-0) plated three runs in the first and eight in the third to run out to an 11-0 lead. The Vikings (0-1) scored six times in the bottom of the third to get closer.

But Chestatee scored one run in each of the fourth and fifth innings and added five more in the sixth.
