Meeting scheduled by lawmakers over Northeast Georgia Health Systems, Anthem negotiations

Two Northeast Georgia legislators prepare for a public meeting at the end of the month regarding the Anthem and Northeast Georgia Health System negotiations.

Senate President Pro Tempore Butch Miller of Gainesville and Representative Terry England of Auburn, along with the Department of Community Health and representatives from Anthem/Blue Cross and the Health System will be at the meeting December 30 at 9 a.m. at the Gainesville Civic Center, according to a release from the state.

Northeast Georgia Health System and Anthem are reportedly "close" to a new agreement on a health insurance contract after months of negotiations which left thousands of Anthem policyholders "out of network" with the health system.
The lawmakers said in a joint statement they had been told the two parties are "close to an agreement in principle."

If the parties reach an agreement before the meeting, it will be called off.

October 1 was the deadline for the two groups to reach an agreement.
