Flowery Branch Police Chief David Spiller said Wednesday that his wife’s arrest on charges of heroin possession has been painful for him and his entire family.
“Addiction of any type is life altering and in many instances it is fatal.” Spillers said in a statement released by his divorce attorney, Lucy Kimbrough Henry. “It is devastating not only for the addict but for all their families and friends. It is a disease that effects countless families and despite the war on opiates, judgments against manufacturers, and the arrests of a never-ending list of drug dealers, shows no sign of ending.”
Spillers’ wife, Samantha Sheri Spillers, 51 of Lula, was arrested last week for possession of heroin. She was one of three people arrested as part of a Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad investigation.
A search warrant was served at a home in the 2000 block of Ridgeway Drive in Gainesville, Lt. Don Scalia of MANS said. Inside the home, officers found about 20 grams of heroin packaged in multiple bags, about 5 grams of methamphetamine packaged in multiple bags, four Alprazolam pills, two pistols, digital scales, ledgers, drug paraphernalia and numerous syringes. Officers also seized $3,000 in cash.
Deputies also arrested Albert Lee Scott, 63 of Gainesville and Samantha Ann Shugrue, 26 of Gainesville as part of the investigation.
The police chief thanked people who came forward to support him after his wife’s arrest.
“My heartfelt thanks to those who have contacted my family and I to express their empathy and my thanks to those officers who go to war every day against drugs,” Spiller said in the release.
