GBI announces arrest in Baldwin home invasion

Two South Carolina men face charges in connection with a home invasion on Spring Street in Baldwin on Sunday, Oct. 13.

James Childers II, 38, of Union, S.C., faces charges of armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of elder abuse, according to Special Agent in Charge Kimberly Williams of GBI Region 8 in Cleveland.

“As the investigation progressed, suspects in South Carolina were identified as being responsible for the home invasion in Baldwin,” Williams said in a statement. “Agents traveled to Union, S.C., and with the help of Union County Sheriff’s Office, evidence was obtained which further confirmed the suspects’ involvement in the home invasion.”

Childers was arrested at his home by Union County Sheriff’s Office personnel on unrelated drug charges. He currently is awaiting extradition to Georgia on the charges related to the home invasion, according to GBI.

Warrants also have been issued for Kevin Knox, 44, of Union, S.C., charging him with armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of elder abuse, according to GBI.

There were two victims in the Baldwin home invasion, and one of those suffered an injury during the incident.
