DAWSONVILLE — Dawson County quarterback Zach Holtzclaw had a career night in a 51-7 rout of Region 7-3A foe, Fannin County, Friday at Tiger Stadium.

The sophomore completed 20-of-24 passes for 387 yards and five touchdowns in the blowout win.

"All three phases were working great," Dawson County coach Sid Maxwell said. "Zack did a great job of moving the chains and hitting the open receivers. It's just one of those games when you execute on all three levels, great things will happen."

Holtzclaw hit nine different receivers, including three scoring passes for 40 yards or more.

Jaden Gibson led the Tiger receiving game with four catches for 131 yards and two scores. Hunter Barron, Dakohta Sonnichsen and Isaiah Grindle hauled in touchdown passes.

The Tigers (5-2, 3-1 Region 7-3A) jumped out 21-7 in the first quarter and added two more scores by half-time to blow open the region contest, 35-7.

Dawson County held Fannin scoreless in the second half while adding 16 more points, including a Caleb Bonesteel 33-yard field goal.

The win locked the Tigers in the Class 3A playoffs with a chance to play for a home playoff game in a couple of weeks. They'll travel to Cherokee Bluff on Friday and to North Hall on Nov. 8. If the Tigers win out, they'll host in the first round.

"This is the fifth straight year that our guys have made the playoffs," Maxwell said. "These young men expect to have success, but we've got to work to perform each week, and it doesn't get easier. So, we've got to worry about us and execute. "
